University Showcase: SUNY DPT
Posted by Ryan
Our recently inducted PT Mentor Amanda Young is a well-trained product of the State University of New York DPT program. The SUNY family of schools, research facilities, community colleges, and university institutions are an integral part of the NY state fabric. In fact, SUNY is the largest comprehensive educational system in the United States. The DPT program is located in the college town of Syracuse and is integrated into the Upstate Medical Center.
The Medical Center has 4 distinctive colleges for health professionals and is the largest medical facility in Central NY. The DPT program benefits greatly from being one of only 130 academic medical centers in the country and the largest in NY.
With 77 specialty clinics, a level-1 trauma center, and a renowned children’s hospital, SUNY Upstate provides DPT students with a myriad of opportunities for hands-on clinical exposure. SUNY DPT has recently scored 100% on both “ultimate pass rate” for the boards and 100% employment rate for recent graduates. The program typically admits between 30-35 per class and believes strongly in focusing on evidence-based practice. The chair of the department is Susan Miller who earned her BS at Cornell and her DPT at the MGH Institute. Her primary areas of expertise include professional behaviors, teaching and learning, as well as management and imaging. If the professional and engaging Amanda Young is any indication, the SUNY program is producing tremendous therapists and we look forward to getting the new grad team to Syracuse. Until next time…
